Living Oprah

Earlier this year, I discovered a blog called Living Oprah. For one year, this blogger has committed to living her life based on Oprah’s advice through the television show, website and magazine. When I first came across the blog, I thought I might find an Oprah fanatic who was desperate to be like her in any way possible. Actually, the blogger, known as LO, is conducting an experiment to see if following Oprah’s advice and recommendations will really allow a person to “Live Your Best Life”, which is the tagline on Oprah.com. Anytime Oprah tells viewers to do something, LO does it.

Many times, LO has discovered that the advice can be conflicting, like when shows focus on the topic of de-cluttering our lives and homes, while other episodes focus on the ten must haves for every woman’s closet. LO is keeping track of her expenses, both money-wise and time-wise while performing this experiment, and I am anxious to see them. There have been several book and movie recommendations, must have clothing pieces, and other assignments, such as participating in online classes for A New Earth and cooking meals highlighted on the show.

Another purpose of this experiment is to find out whether Oprah is still connected enough to everyday, ‘normal’ people or if she is so far removed from a typical life that she can’t relate to us anymore. So far, the conclusion seems to be that Oprah is pretty far removed. A minor example of this is when Vera Wang was on the show, and Oprah marveled at the inexpensive items in her new Kohl’s collection. LO felt that $128 for a light jacket was still pretty expensive, and I have to agree. I am a loyal Forever 21 shopper, and I hate to spend more than $30 on any one piece.

I first found the blog in February, and I spent about two days catching up on all the posts. Since then, I check the blog every day, and I love reading LO’s insights into the shows, magazine articles and other Oprah related items. She will continue to follow Oprah’s advice until the end of the year. And yes – she will be voting for Oprah-endorsed, Barack Obama.

I know, I enjoy reading her blog, but I could never do this experiment for myself!
