Chaos

I mentioned a couple of months ago that we wanted to do some work to our house - the two big things we decided to do included remodeling the master shower (because right now it is about the size of my pinkie) and redoing all the floors in our living spaces (in other words, everything but the bedrooms). In order to save a bit of money, we demo-ed (spelling?) the floors ourselves, and it was a bit chaotic. Carly is staying with Mim and Chief (my mom and dad) this week so she won't hurt her little feet on broken tile or go mute by yelling at the workers all day every day. So we are "child"-free this week and it feels a little weird.

Carly, right after her grooming appointment - see the little bow around her neck?!

Anyway, I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

Before - family room (with little Carly-Car in the background)

After - family room

The previous owner left an armoire FULL of all these wires (he was a sound engineer). We didn't know what to do with them, so we just cut them and pushed them back into the wall. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that these wires contained our cable and internet connection, so now we have neither for the next two weeks. Hello, Pride and Prejudice DVD!

Before - wet bar. Our house was built in the 70s, so wetbars were pretty common...although completely useless in our household.

In progress - we are getting rid of it!

Before - kitchen (ugly linoleum meant to look like wood)

It's crazy to see it when you pull it up...it's just thick paper!

After - kitchen

Hubster hard at work chipping up tile. I helped with the cleanup, but not the actual demo.

First truckload we hauled away - see all those wires!

Second truckload

It was a busy weekend, but we really accomplished a lot. On top of the demo, we had my sister's engagement party Saturday night, and Hubster's parents stayed with us (they were in town for the party). I thought I would get a lot more stressed out, but I really didn't. I had a great time at my sister's party (pics to come) and my in-laws helped out tons around the house. All weekend Hubster and I kept saying we couldn't believe that the time had actually come that we were getting this work done. We've been talking about it for so long. The workers come tomorrow to start the shower! Here's a quick pic of the tiny shower.

Pictures don't really show how small it is, but you can kind of see where the shower head pokes out and how close it is to the opposite wall. We're knocking out some walls (a linen closet to the left of the shower) to make it much bigger (and prettier!).

I'll try and post a few more pics over the next couple of weeks to show the progress. Yay!

good luck! we've redone just about every inch of our house in one way or another. in fact, we're in the middle of redoing our loft. you go a little crazy, but the end result is always worth it. when you're at the "almost done" stage- charge thru- don't leave it! "we" (i use that term lightly) did that and things getting finished lingered for months. i had to threaten to move him out to get it all done! i hope you don't get to that!!!

Oh my gosh you need a weekend to recover from your weekend of work, entertaining & engagement-partying! sounds like it was all fun & exiting stuff, though :)

We are in the process of remodeling our house as well. It's 40 years old so anything we do is an improvement but it definitely gets a bit stressful at times. Can't wait to see more pictures!

Looks like you have your work cut out for you, but the end result will be marvelous I am sure. And that little Carly is too cute!

I love all of the in-progress pictures and can't wait to see how it all turns out!

I would love to know if you like the contractors you used. We also live in an 1970s house in Dallas and have the tiny tiny shower that we want to fix and some floors that certainly need improvement!

Way to go!! We moved into our house in April and spent the first several months ripping up layers and layers of wallpaper. We still need to do the crown and paint two hideious bathrooms, but, where is the time?! Way to go on making so much progress!!
